M1 Carbine/Mini 14
« on: August 31, 2006, 12:34:47 PM »
Not another debate
YES, but this one hasn't been discussed before
Which would you rather have a mini 14 or a M1 Carbine and why????
Ammo in 223 is not that much cheaper than 30 carbine?
Which one has better accuracy and reliable?
Less recoil and goodies to add?
More fun to shoot?

M1 carbine - original military only.  Collector's value is going crazy.  Both guns are light recoiling and fun to shoot.

I have both. And Love them.
Both are light and handy, Similar capacities
Mini-14 is of course more powerful.
Inside of 100 yards accuracy is about the same
with iron sights. Both are quite reliable.
It is the actual value of the M1 now that is
astounding me. They are selling at gun shows
now for about $700.00 to $1,000.00  depending on
who made them. I don't mean that is what the seller
is asking, People are buying them at this price!!!
I Have A 1944 GM with a  CASE Bayonet that
I had a hard time not selling at the last show!
I just could not bring myself to do it yet. Maybe next show.

Just picked up a 1943 Quality Machine - perfect - no bayo lug - never rearsenaled. Sweetest
shooter I've had in years - beautifully accurate! A keeper, forever! ;D

If you are talking collector value, there is no comparison.  The M1 is the hands-down favorite.  I keep a factory folding stock Mini-14 around the cabin witha 40 round magazine for all around defense.  I've killed marauding skunks, groundhogs, and other varmints out past 100 yards.  It is not a true varminter by any stretch as far as accuracy goes, but it would defend the house and home better, in my opinion than the carbine.  Firepower, better factory ammo, longer range applications,  and higher capacity are some of my reasons.

That said, I own a paratrooper configuration carbine and love it.
