shotgun finish?????????

picked up an old JC higgins double barrel  last weekend , model 311A sears an robucks onthe side of the reciever , anyhow shes a bit rough  goin to make it into a stage coacher , its got 28 in full and full i think they are tight,  but id like to  strip what blueing is lef t offthe barrels and  since the reciver is i think nickle , well its nickle and rust lookin now bit id like to strip the barrels and make them look like that old west finish that uberti puts on the 1873 cattleman sort of a silver dull  lookin but what sort of a protectant would  a guy put over the bare  metal after he stripped the blueing off?? to keep the old silver look??? any hints or ideas? thanks shaner

well i went ahead an did it , i took the shotgun apart, down to the reciver and barrel  took them on a polishing wheel type of grinder and buffed all the blueing off of it,  took a can of semi gloss enamal for metal its  just a clear caoting and sprayed them  with three coats of it , worked great so far , cant really tell its ben coated  i up rig on the enaml after it dried an that dulled the shine  to a flat looking finish , reall gave it an antiqued  look  now my old jchiggins double looks like a 100yr old shotgun,
