Scope ring height of 22LR and .243 win. barrel
« on: September 23, 2006, 02:19:47 PM »
as topic, I have a nikon 3-9X40mm scope
which height should I get? for example weaver top mount rings or burris signature Zee rings.
or if anyone could tell me the minimum distance between top of the base to the bottom of the scope tube, that would be great too.

I also have browning a-bolt stainless stalker, with burris signature zee medium ring. would it work on NEF barrels too?

thanks

The interference point is at the hammer, so tube height doesn't make too much difference, the position/diameter of the ocular bell/power ring in relationship to the hammer is where you need to be concerned. Usually medium Sig Zees which are .270" high will work, but not always.

In weaver the med should work but Highs will. In Burris I believe the med will be fine. the uncertainty is caused buy the scope, there are different varibules that come up with different MFG's scopes. One height will NOT WORK for all.

If I had to buy one that I knew would work. It would have to be Weaver 4X4 rings in HIGH. I would also go for the offset rings.

Here is a shot of a MED height Weaver 4X4 ring and a Leupold 2X7X28 scope:

Dunno which Nikon you have, but here's last year's model 3-9x40 Buckmasters in medium Burris Sig Zees.

I use Millett rings on my barrels all are medium height.  Millett isnt high end but they are cheapos, I use them on all my Weaver railed scope mounts.

Pic doesnt show it well, but it is about perfect height for me.
