Remington Sendero SF II
« on: August 26, 2006, 11:47:30 AM »
this past week i worked up some loads for a friend's 700 sendero .25/06. although very heavy, i was very impressed with the way it felt and shot. i've seen that remington offers the sendero in stainless/fluted barrel version. its listed weight is only 1 pound more than the bdl/cdl line. what do you think about the sendero SF II as a walking around rifle say in the western foothills? i know its no mountain rifle. i have a ruger m77r .25/06 with a heavy contour barrel i hunt mule deer and antelope with and it weighs about 10.5pounds rigged out. i figure the sendero SF Ii similarly rigged out would weigh around 11pounds. what do you think?

There is no answer that works for everyone here. I have been using a regular Sendero(unfluted) in
25-06(AI now) for years on my Western Hunts & some of my hunts here in AR. I have no complaints & in fact Lord willing I will continue to use this wonderful rig. For Elk I use a Sendero (laminated so heavier) in 300WM & occassionally I carry a light 30-06AI Win Featherweight. For me it is no biggie,
but I am bigger than usual myself & not a couch potatoe. For some of a weaker sort, it would be way too heavy. I chuckle at the gun articles that tell us what a gun should weigh, whether the user is Hulk Hogan or Twiggy.  ::)
You are only looking at a half pound more than what you are currently using. Add a half pound to it(mostly on the barrel) & carry it around your place awhile & see for yourself. Only you can arrive at the right conclusion.

I really have nothing to add, nomosendero pretty much said it all.

If youre carrying 10lbs or more now, another .5lb wont kill you.

Well well well. The Sendero 300RUM loaded with 200AB worked great. Carried good and shot great. Got to shoot two elk and both dropped in their tracks. First one a guy on our hunt shot a big cow in the hind-Q and it sat down. After him running out of bullets and me being the closest, I got to within 400yrds and it got up so I had to finish it off. The other guy was watching thru his binos when I shot and said that she came off her feet and hit the ground ,game over. The second was another cow at about 425 yrds. Cow was bedded and stood up. Only shot I had was high shoulder/neck. Got steady on my Stoney Point bipod sticks and dropped her with one shot where she stood. Both bullets were passthru's and performed perfectlly. I do think that the 200AB is a great elk  bullet. The two elk that were shot with Noslor Par. , the bullets were recovered on the outside hide.
I do prefer two holes.

Never got to shoot a bull but saw several nice ones. One was a nice 6x6 at about 860 yrds. Called my buddy to come and watch the bull for me while I tried to get to the next ridge to be around 300 yrds. Wind was perfect for me when I started, but that danged ole Co. weather changed on me the wind chanded and the bull didn't really spook but left. I only had about 75-100 yrds to go for a perfect 300 yrd shot. After my buddy called and said that the bull went over the next ridge, I checked the wind again and it was as bad as it could be. the wind did a complete about-face on me. O well that's why they call it hunting. I still enjoyed my first elk hunt and taking a cow was fine with me. Gives me good reason to go back. That ole bull has a rematch coming his way.LOL

happy huntin,DM
