I too am looking for a scope for one of the smaller Rugers, only mine is a 77RL Ultralight .223 to be used as a "walkin' around" varminter. I've pretty well decided that one of the Leupold Ultralight 3-9x33 AO scopes is just about perfect for my purpose. For your stated use, the 2-7 version might be more appropriate.

Look at the Leupold Ultralight in 2.5X. It has eye relief of 4.9" Just the ticket for snap shots at hogs and deer. 2.5X will handlle any big game out to 300 yds, which is further than most of us should be shooting anyway. There is no need for a variable, they are both bulkier and more delicate than fix powers scopes.

I second ScoutMan's viewpoint. My M77RL Ultralight .257 Bob has a Leupold M8 4x lightweight scope & it's perfect for the point & balance of the rifle. The 2.5x for the compact Ruger would be outstanding for your hunting purposes. Whatever you do, don't overscope a lightweight rifle.

I had a Ruger Compact in .233. and currently own one in .243 Win., both of them stainless / grey laminated stock.

On both of them I mounted a Leupold 3X9 Ultralight (new version of the "compact").

That's what I would suggest.

I went with the 1.5-5 vx3 leupold had it out at the range yesterday 100yds shot great, I shot a 1in 3 shot group, my dad got it to go in .5in 3 shot s at 100yds. the scope is light weight and looks great on the rifle. Im looking forward to get it out pig hunting in a month or so

That's an excellent scope & a great choice on your behalf. It's size & weight are perfect for that little rifle.
