k31 problem

Finally got some range time in with my k31. I have installed a ST. Marie scope mount and a Swift 2-7x. i did not get a chance to test this gun for accuracy since I could not get one single spent round to eject. They all extracted but just laid there on magazine. About 20 rounds, three different loads all the same results. Time for tear down and reassembly and trouble shooting and repair. Any one else have this problem?

If I am understanding your problem correctly the only time I have that problem, which isn't a problem for me is when I don't pull the handle back forcefully.

I reload my brass so I don't want it to go flying.  I pull the handle back only enough so the case just lays there just like you are describing so I can pick it up with my fingers.

I take it you are pulling the handle back quickly and the brass isn't hitting your scope?  If this isn't the case I think you are right about the tear down.

Not sure why this stopped you from shooting the rifle for accuracy though.

The reason I did not take the time for accuracy testing is the fact that I have another k31 I planned on moving the scope and mounting system to since the gun in hand was not cooperating. Bolt up the optics to the other k31 and perform a complete tear down of the malfunctioning rifle. I have no time or patience for malfunctioning equipment, it either performs or its outta here and quickly replaced or repaired if possible.

Yes, but since you are planning on doing this it would have been a perfect time to compare the accuracy of the two rifles.  And it might have just been something simple wrong with the bolt of the rifle that was malfunctioning.  It only takes a minute to disassemble the bolt.  But, it is your rifle.

Ok Jack, you are right. I am not good at range-smithing. I focused on patience and closely examined the rifle in my shop to better see what it was doing by extracting several spent rounds and loaded ones as well. After aggressively attempting to eject several rounds I noticed the rounds had an obvious serrated dent in them, the same shape as the large thumb screw for the ring /base located directly over the magazine area of the rifle. I need to reverse the rings to locate that large thumb screw on the other side. My original thinking was to keep the area of the bolt handle clear of these large thumb screws to increase the clearance but this caused problems on the magazine side. Nothing wrong with the gun at all. Just my lack of patience and not allowing myself enough time to thoroughly analyze the problem. With iron sights both of my k31's shoot the same. Thanks for your input Jack. It made me reevaluate the situation.

I haven't shot mine yet, but the fella at the range that talked me into one said if you don't pull the bolt back briskly, the case does exactly what you discribe. His technique was to open the bolt with a sharp pull to the rear and catch the case in the air almost directly above the rifle, I watched him do it repeatedly for a hundred rounds or so over 3 or 4 range visits, never saw him miss a catch!

Glad you found the problem.  I have 2 K31's and would like to compare the two for accuracy.  I have a scope on one of mine but I have 27 rifles that I shoot and just can't afford a scope and mount for all of them.

With my eyes using the iron sights it really won't tell me what I want to know and I don't want to pull the scope mount and scope off the one and put it on the other since I have it set up already.

I would like to have better quality scopes but I would have to buy so many it would probably bankrupt me or put me into divorce court.  I suspect I would find like you that there probably isn't any real difference between the two.
