M-16,5.56 lower/9mm upper
« on: September 29, 2006, 05:40:48 PM »
I have a M-16.bought a 9mm upper for it.and did some reverse enginering and made an adapter for the mag well to accomidate colt 9mm mags.seems the hammer on the lower is not really made to operate the bolt on the upper.the bolt where the hammer is brought back is sharp and is nicking the hammer face and I don't believe the hammer on a lower 9mm is the same as a hammer on the lower 5.56.any one know about this?colt will not talk to me about machine guns.and from what I hear will not talk with any one over the phone about thier machine guns.
my huntin rifle is safe from confiscation only while my battle rifle protects it.

Kyote, your deduction is correct, in order for the 9mm to work properly you must change the hammer.  I think you also need to change the buffer and buffer spring but I am not certain about that.  Any way if you will contact the folks at Rock River Arms www.rockriverarms.com they can fix you up and I think you will find they are much easier to deal with than Colt.  I also think you have to switch the hammer back when using 5.56 but once again RRA will be able to get you on track.  There are probably other suppliers for the part but I know RRA can get you up and running.  Have fun.
