Anyone ever try the Hornady PTX bullets??

I picked up a couple boxes of these some time back.



 I had thought about loading them up in/for my 45 COLT heavy loads. They are designed for muzzelloaders and my 45 loads approximate these velocities out of rifle barrels.  They are 250grns and .451 Dia.:



 I turned some canalurers on them at the proper depth and will load them up shortly.



 I just wondered if anyone else had used them??

I used these one year in my T/C Omega over 120 grains of FF 777 and they were very accurate.  I hit a big whitetail in the shoulder and the bullet hit and smashed the upper leg bone.  Unfortunately, the bullet totally disintegrated in the shoulder and did not penetrate into the body cavity.  I finally got the buck after a long chase, but lost confidence in these bullets.  They only made these for a couple years and then came out with the "improved" SST bullets - I believe.  I now use Hornady 240 gr. XTP-HP/MAG bullets in all my Omega loads and in all my .454 Casull loads and have never had one fail.
