I'm basically a slate or box call turkey hunter, but I finally had to clear the tail fans and wings out of my garage freezer, so I tried making a wingbone call. The darn thing even kinda sounds like a hen. Guess it take practice.

Now I can't wait 'til next season. May have to get out with a camera and exercise this year's poults and jakes just for grins.

Just do it some place besides your regular hunting area so they don't know it's you.

2 questions for you guys.

1) how do you use a wing bone call?

2) how do you make it, can you use other thing besides th turkey wing bones?

Besides Jack's really neat link, there's a short description in the April 2002 Sports Afield (p. 14); page 56 of the May 2001 issue of SA; and page 49 of the March 2003 issue of Field & Stream. Probably a bunch more out there, since they're not exactly new--except to me.

Jack: You're right--it would be just my luck to "practice" on and thus train a whole flock of new birds. :oops:

I HAVE USED WING BONE CALLERS FOR YEARS , GOBBLERS LOVE THEM, I HAVE ONE FAVORITE THAT I WOULDNT TAKE A FARM IN GA. FOR. THE NEXT TIME YOU KILL A LONG SPURED GOBBLER , TAKE THE BONE FROM THE LEG WHERE THE SPUR IS AND MAKE IT THE THIRD BONE IN YOUR CALLER, IT REALLY SETS IT OFF.

hi i have seen it done one of my friends made me one out of a turkey he killed i am leaning to use it by the time turkey season gets here i mite have the yelp down lol VM

now you can drive everyone around you crazy learning to use it :-D
just kidding!!
i carry two in the spring.one is from a hen the other is from a jake both have very different tones.....
ive heard guys who can really talk turkey with em.......me ive used them for years.....im still trying to master them.
but thats half the fun!!!
