Shotgun Parallax - 50 vs 100 yard for Conquest 3-9x40
« on: September 25, 2006, 01:32:29 PM »
OK, I'm seriously stumped on what to do between these two.

Nowadays, slug guns can reach out 150-200 yards and I see most shotgun scopes are set parallax free at 75 yards.  Zeiss has chose to set their Conquest shotgun version at 50 yards and I'm stumped on which one to choose.

Can someone give me a simple PROs vs CONs of the 50 vs 100 yard model?  Want to make a purchase for my 11-87, but can't seem to settle in on which of these I want to get.

If you are going to us this shotgun for big game hunting and you have the potential to shoot out to 250 yards, go with the 100 parallax scope.  At 50 yards on big game it is not going to be an issue for you.

I totally agree.  Many new shotguns and ammo are made for those 150 yards shots, that was unheard of 10 years ago.

However, keep in mind that, while your gun and ammo may reach out that far, you have to make sure that your hunting situation will be similar.  In certain parts of the country, where the woods are quite dense, the maximun shot that some hunters get may be very close, where a 50 paralax setting would be more practical.
