M-94 AE Safety Removal...Is it safe?

A friend removed the safey from his M-94 AE because it was unsightly and a nuisance.

Now he asks if it's ok to have done so becuase the reboundign hammer does not seem to go all the way forward when he pulls the trigger.  He hasn't shot it yet.

Has anyone else removed the cross-bolt safety from their M-94 AE?  Any problems?

Haven't done it to mine yet! been thinking about it. Now that your buddy has done it he just has to remember he is now the safety! Dont drop it with a round in the chamber and keep the finger off the trigger with the hammer back until he's ready to shoot!

I don't own a Winchester with a crossbolt safety.  I have replaced the safety on one of my Marlin 336 rifles, with Clyde Ludwigs safety plug.  It takes the place of the safety, and looks like a screw head.

Now, the question is "Is it safe".  The answer to that question is YES, as long as I'm the one in possession of the rifle.  Primarily because I have never trusted a mechanical safety.  If I ever sell the rifle, I will certainly reinstall the factory safety.

I hope you don't think about removing the brakes from your pickup because the brake pedal distracts from the looks of your truck.

Yes the safety does not add to the looks BUT it was there when you bought it, not like it grew there after the purchase. There is a reason it is called a SAFETY

The rebounding hammer is supposed to set away from the firing pin. My Win Trapper has no cross bolt safety. Safety is first between the ears. The cross bolt safety justs adds another tier of complexity. Heavans!! what did our grandfathers do in the 19 th century!!
