Bushnell Legend Scopes

I am considering purchasing a Bushnell Legend scope but have heard that they are not made with a one piece tube. Should that be enough reason to look somewhere else or will they be durable enough for most hunting applications? Are they a better choice than their Trophy line?

I think you need to go to the Elites for a 1-piece tube.

The above was pasted and copied from the Bushnell website.  The answer is the one model that does not advertise a one-piece tube is the Legend.

From what I have been told, the Legends, although they have better light transmission than the Trophys, do have 2 piece tubes (unlike the Trophys).  This is the biggest reason that I don't buy legends.

The Elite 3200 has a little less lgiht transmission, but it has a one-piece tube AND RAINGUARD.  Plus, it's tested to alot of rounds of recoil similar to a .375H&H.  The 4200 has ever better optics and is tested to much more rounds.

I own several 4200s and one 3200.  I am very happy with them.

Seems to me that the Leupold VX-II is also a two piece tube scope

I'm not sure about the VX-II, but I do know the Leupold Rifleman (and possibly the VX-1) uses a 3-pc tube on their scopes.  The Legend, by the way, is twice the scope as either the Rifleman or the VX-1, and cheaper to boot.

I have several Rifleman's, one VX1 and a Legend.  The Legend is a good scope, but not quite the equal of the Leopolds.  It certainly is not twice the scope.

I don't see how you could think the Leupold Rifleman is a better scope than the Legend.  The Legend has better glass, is brighter, and has click adjustments.  Plus, its cheaper than the Rifleman.  I have owned both scopes, and the Rifleman is no comparison to the Legend.  In fact, it really doesn't even compare to the Bushnell Trophy. 

Look at it this way.  Both utilize multi-piece tubes.  Light transmission for the Legend is around 91%, whereas the Rifleman is closer to 84-85%.  The Legend uses click adjustments, versus the friction style on the Rifleman.  Combine those to with the price, and its pretty easy to see which offers more.

To each his own.  I own both, have viewed them side by side, and the Rifleman gives me a better sight picture.  Plus I don't have to mess with a fast focus, like on the Legend.  I set it and a year later its still focused.  Oh, and the Trophy isn't even in the same ballpark.

I'd have to say my vote goes to to the Bushnell.  I've owned both Leupold and Bushnell and you get more for your money with Bushnell.  I own a trophy, legend, 3200, and even a banner.  To be honest, I like the Banner better than them all.  Call me nuts but the Banner allows me to see later in the evening than any of them.  Maybe I got a fluke, who knows?

I am looking at Legend and elite 3200 also, when I read Bushnell specs I see (Legend as FULLY muticoted lens, and 3200 as only multicoated.
I read a piece describing lens treatment and it said fully multicoated was a step above multicoted.

All the really expensive scopes say fully multicoated.  Whats up with that? better lens on cheaper scope?  with bushnell warranty 1 piece tube might not be such a bad thing.
And some guys say Banner is brighter, very hard to make a decision.

just got my legend 3x9x40,  it is very bright.  I am impressed.  hope it holds zero,  also got Warne rings.  They are steel and very sturdy,  I don't believe I will ever buy anything else.

I have four rifles that sport the Legend 5-15x40 with Mil Dots.
I would highly encourage anyone who is thinking of someday purchasing a Legend to give this model a try.  It seems you certainly do get alot for your cash with the Bushnell Legend.

Well, I took the leap and a bought Legend last night.  I determined that I needed a new scope for the Mossberg ATR .30-06.  After reading so many positive remarks I decided to give one a try.  It is a 3X9X50. It does seem to be very clear.  Looks pretty good on the Mossy, too.  I hope to get to the range, as soon as it stops raining.

I have a Legend 3-9x40 on a Marlin 336.  Works great.  Bright and clear.  Better than Banner and Trophy

How do you like that ATR?  It sure would be nice if they made those in 223

Smokey262:  I like the ATR very much.  I've had one since Oct 2004.  Very accurate with Rem 180 gr Core Locts and Win 180 gr Power Points.  The action is smooth as well.  Never had any problems with the rifle.  I also would like to see one in a .223 and/or a .22-250 or perhaps, even a 7-08.  Maybe Mossberg will get around to it since they now offer it with a short action.  There are lots of posts about the ATR on the Bolt Action Rifle forum, if your interested.  Thank you for asking.
