Rossi .410/.22 - .410 shells stick in barrell
« on: January 24, 2005, 03:03:23 AM »
Got a Rossi .410/.22 Combo for my 6yo.  .22 shoots great.  The .410 had an excellent pattern.  But when we tried to eject the shell from the .410 it would not come out.  I had to use a cleaning rod to force it out.  I loaded another shell and didn't fire it.  It too would not come out.  I tried both Remmington and Federal shells. Both stick.
It seems that the problem is the High-Brass shells.  Low Brass slugs function fine in the .410 fine.  Another problem is, you can't find .410 shot shells in low brass and who wants to hunt squirrels with slugs.
Any ideas?

I have the same problem with Remington Game Loads in my .410 barrel.  Have had no problem with Winchester Super X.

I did a comparison of the chambers between my H&R Topper .410 and my Rossi .410 and it would appear that the Rossi Chamber is a lot tighter.  Unfired shells will fall freely from the chamber when you tilt the barrel up on the Topper.  One interesting thing of note is that the Rossi's ejector is about twice the size of the Toppers.  I am going to try polishing the chamber of my Rossi to see if that helps.

I to have this problem with the 410 barrel of my boys.  It appears to be a common problem with the Rossi 410 barrels.  :(

My Rossi only sticks with the 2.5" shells the 3" shells work perfectly. I think this is one of them quirky Rossi things.

simple fix is to take it to a smith...they shoud have .410 reamers a few bucks and they'll ream it for you ..or you could get a small barrel sanding wheel for a drill and sand it out some...
