And if the Weaver mount does not have a slot where you need it, a couple minutes with a hack saw and narrow file will take care of  the problem.

The worst thing about the Weaver #82 rail is there's no mounting position on the rear 1½" of the rail, so the scope has to be so far forward. I'd give H&R a call on their toll free line and order one, it would be well worth the wait. ;) The rail is $13.50 without a hammer ext, or $18 with the ext.

Well, I lucked out.  I remembered having a mount similar to the one used on these rifles put away with a lot of my other forgotten about firearm bits and pieces.

I didn't have two screw mount holes that lined up so with the aid of a dial caliper and drill press that wasn't a problem.

Also the mount didn't have the exact fit on the bottom as my barrel so some sandpaper and a little lapping fixed that.

It is kind of a god awful looking setup but I really just needed a scope so I can make my reloads for this rifle as accurate as I can as my eyes just aren't up to this task very well at distances of 100 + yards with open sights.

The only rings I had on hand that would work were the very high rings and the only scope I had on hand was a Simmons 6X24X50.  I don't know how long the scope will hold up under the recoil of the 45/70 but I hope to find out tomorrow.

I really wanted this setup for tomorrow that is why I wanted the info on other possible sources for the mount.  I remember a while back that my Walmart had some of these bases on clearance and if they haven't sold them yet I think I will buy me some for future use if the need arises.  Who knows, if I take a liking to a scope being on this rifle I might just get the right rings and a good low power scope for it.  Thanks to everyone for their replies.  :)
