The 454 Casull still works ...

300 grain jacketed FA bullet at 1550 fps, 80 yards.  One shot high left shoulder followed by one shot low right shoulder ... either would have been mortal ... and he was down and died quickly.

Congratulations!  What part of the country were you hunting in?

Felicitaciones!!!  Were you shooting a factory load?  This sounds like the Winchester 300 grain JFP, if I recall the box correctly.

No sir - handloads.  300 grain jacketed FA flatpoint, 30.5 grains H110, Winchester WSR primer, Starline brass.

Sorry if I`m nosey, but what scope and mount do you use? I`m interested in scoping mine, and was most impressed by your photo.
Regards, mark

Not nosey at all ... it is a 2.5-8x Leupold in a Lovell Precision mount.  (The mount comes from Freedom Arms).  If I was doing it over again, might get a plain ol' 4x Leupold as the scope setting rarely changes and the 4x is smaller.

9" gun, by the way ... factory sling studs.  Had my local saddle shop make a leather strap sling for it, which I prefer to nylon, having shot my way through a nylon sling or two when a good breeze came along.
