Which handload data?
« on: October 09, 2006, 02:59:18 PM »
Another question. Can you tell I've been smitten by the Handi bug?
For the 45-70...in all the books it lists loads for "trapdoor", "Marlin" and "Ruger". Where do the Handi rifles fall? Marlin? Certainly stronger then the trapdoor, but how much stronger?

H&R will tell you to use Marlin loads, but the recoil might make you change your mind!! The Handi is factory chambered in .500S&W with a SAAMI MAP of a little over 50kpsi, compare that to Ruger levels in the Hodgdon Annual, that will give you an idea of what the frame is rated for.
