Anybody collect barbed wire?

Sorry if off topic, but where else?
You Southwesterners know that barbed wire collecting is quite popular.  My wifes uncle, a surveyor in NM, often came accross sections of old odd wire.  He didn't know, at that time, that it had to be of a certain minimum length to be collectable so he cut sections that were too short.  He gave me some of it, and it's tacked up in my shop now.

I have a few boards with the unusual styles.  My Grampa used different types for different fields and pastures, but now, it's all the same type.

Speaking of collecting.  I've got about a 4 inch scar on my shin, courtesy of a bull, barbwire and a 3 year-old's curiosity.  :)

I remember years ago seeing a toilet seat made of clear plastic with several types of barbed wire in it. It was priced at $25 or so. I'd have trouble sitting on that one!

don't know much about it, but as I remember there is a barbwire museum in LaCross, Kansas.I'm not sure but I think they call the town the Barb wire Capitol.

My wife's family's ranch here in Wyoming is quite large, with many old homesteads on it.  WHile not a collector myself, her uncle is and he makes picture frames out of old ship-lapped lumber and some kind of barbed wire on the old fences here that has a triangle barb on it.  If not mistaken, it is from wither the 1840's or 1860's.

The only piece I've got came from the Berlin wall.
I got it the summer of 1961 when the wall went up.

speaking of barbed wire toilet seats, I have been looking for one of those for about five years.  If anyone knows where I can buy them please let me know.

:-D   No not yet but if you give me the address I would sure check it out! You know maybe a little Rattler on each side would get peoples attention also. Where can one find the plastic and molds to pour the product into.

How old is collectable?    I've got rolls and rolls of old barbed wire that I've replaced on the ranch.   And there's still some on the fences that were probably put up in the early 50's.  And some down along a creek that are more than likely older than that.
One day I found an old tomb stone with a sixgun carved in it with a guys name on it.  He died on July 4th.   Come to find out he'd been killed trying to hold up a stage coach just down the trail from where he was buried.   That trail ran through our ranch.   It was part of the old Butterfield Stage Route, and a well still exists where they changed horses for the Stage.   When I went back for that Tomb Stone it was gone.
Enjoy your rights to keep and bear arms.
