Rio Grande Croc
« on: October 09, 2006, 01:30:32 AM »
A while back a "humorus" e-mail circulated about putting crocs in the river to stem the tide of illegal immigrants.

Looks like the first one was in place.....

Hey, it ain't much but it's a start........now we need to start on the wall! :D

Only one, I guess this is further indication that Bush is operating on a limited budget.

It may have been released, but considering the distance from the Gulf to Laredo, it is possible that it got there under it's own power.  Whiile working for Game and Fish, we found several along the coast back in the early sixties, they were salt water crocs, but they did often venture up fresh water streams if there were a plentiful food supply.

The vary idea of a 700 mile wall is rediculass if we start shooting them it will stop fast. But I do like the crocodile and Parana as an added deterrent bullets and maneaters yes.

Back in my day we had forts with soldiers to stabilize the border.
Course---that did not work either.

if croc tail tastes as good deep fried as gator then the mexes would wipe them out anyway no matter how many we stocked in the rio.

I've canoed and swam the Rio Grande, never thought about Crocs.  Did think about snapping turtles.  Now the trick is to convence the enviromentalist that we need Crocs in the Rio Grande more than we need wolves in the mountains.  If we can do that we got it made.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Like TM7, I have canoed the Rio several times, and fished along the river in several places.  The majority of the time the river is low enough that a short legged mexican can wade across and not get his hip pockets wet.  But there area several areas where even a good swimmer can get in trouble in a hurry.

I made the trip several times from Lajitas to La Linda (look that one up on the map), even had lunch at the "Howard Johnson's" on the American side, (but only once).  Back in the early eighties it became very dangerous to make the river trip.  The Mexicans would shoot at rafters or conoes from the high peaks on the mexican side of the river.  A local man and his wife were on the river with several other couples, he was shot and killed, she took a couple of hits, but survived.  After that they discouraged river trips for several years, but it is a big business for several river tour groups today, and a good time and experience for those who wish to try it.  If you are thinking of one of these trips, Thanksgiving to early Febuary is the best time, From about the end of May to November it is so hot (100 plus degrees) that it is very dangerous to even attempt a trip.
