POLL: Where do you purchase your hunting clothing/gear?
« on: July 06, 2006, 07:19:37 PM »
You must vote in order to view the poll results. Post why you chose who you did.

Myself, I voted Cabelas. I feel I can get quality gear for a decent price. They see lots of my money. Must be why they send the the hard cover catalog. I also patronize some of the others listed, mainly because they are local vendors, such as Gander mountain, etc..

I chose Cabelas since that's where most of my gear was purchased. I also have gone to Walmart, Dicks, and local mom & pop stores. Cabelas has more to choose from is why that's my main source for gear. Some gear like flash lights are found at Lowes or Home Depot. Military surplus stores are a good place to look around for gear too.

It has been Cabela's for years. They almost always have the size I need. They deliver when promised. The store personnel and the order takers when I call in are friendly and helpful. MOST important is the quality and service. I have NEVER had an issue with Cabela's.

Cabelas hands down!  They treat you like they really want your business.
Gander Mountain is going to open a new store in my area soon, looking forward
    to that.
Bass Pro Shops may be good for some but for me they just don`t cut it. I`ve had
more bad experiences than good with that outfit.

Savage .250, sorry to hear that. A new Bass Pro Shop is under construction just 10 minutes from my house. I'm kind of excited. I have never been into one of those BIG BOX, hunting department store types as none are close to me. I take that back, I've been to LL Bean in Maine when visiting family. That was pretty cool but a long time ago.

I buy some stuff at a local Wal Mart and some from Cabelas depends on what I need.

I buy what I can locally, but if it isn't made in the USA, or at least a developed country with good environmental and labor laws I don't buy it. If I have to I will order from the factory or mail order, if it means getting a Made in USA product.

I often order from Bemidji Woolen Mills. Bemidji sells their own products and other brands who don't directly compete with their market share. I bought a pair of 100% wool Windsor Wear canadian long johns from Bemidji. They also carry Wigwam and Fox River socks and gloves.

I have purchased Codet wool products from both the Supply Sargeant surplus store and Getzs, which is like an old school clothiers in my home town. Getz's has a good website and mail order business too.

I won't buy woolrich any more, they went overseas. Pendleton shirts are made in foreign countries with USA made fabric, so I don't like them so much any more. Filson is extremely expensive and some of it is imported too. All that's left really is Bemidji and Johnson, and Johnson is expensive too. Bemidji makes products of similar quality and style to Filson & others.

I do what I can to get products that meet my standards, but I like to support small and or local businesses.

I live fairly close to a Bass Pro Shop.  Very seductive atmosphere for me.  I do love cabela's too, but the ability to try it on, physically touch it before buying, is also appealing.
