Range Report--T/C Omega
« on: October 09, 2006, 03:29:48 PM »
My wife got me this rifle last November.  I wanted another in-line.  My CVA has a peep sight and I was looking for
a scoped ML.

The Omega was my first choice as I'd sighted in a buddy's gun last fall and was astonished at with the accuracy of
his Omega.  I also liked the clean-up with the gun.

I put a Sightron shotgun scope on the gun and I am very happy with the sep-up.

I'm using 777 FFFg powder (80 grains) behind a 235 grain Precision Rifle lead sabot.

At 100 yards I'm well satisfied with 1.5" groups.  I chronoed this load last week.  With the Chrony set up fifty yards down-range,
I'm getting a consistant 1,750 fps.  This is well with-in my requirements for whitetail deer.

I also like the modest recoil with this load.  About like a low-end 30-30.

At the end of last season I picked up 8lbs of 777 FFg from Wally World...I imagine I need to start working up
some FFg loads after this season...I couldn't pass up 777 for $7.00/lb!

If you never used 777 powder before, your going be very impressed with its easy cleanup. :)

Buffermop,
I am with you 100%.  I've used Pyrodex and ugh...much dirtier & smellier too.  Even some
stuff which I think was called "Clean Shot" was dirtier.

A friend did the same thing you did and recomended the 777.

It's good stuff. I think it will be fun working up loads with
the FFg powder I picked up cheap (heck, burning 8lbs of 777 has got to be a plan).

Take it easy.
