Do you mean starting a beagle?

If so usually 1yr old is about as long as you would want to wait to start a beagle pup.

Most people start them at around 5-6 mnths of age.

Not to say and older dog wont start but it is alot harder.

Hope that helps,
Rob

There is always the exception.  Had a 4 yo. beagle house dog given to me, dropped him off with my cousins who lived in the country.  The first time that dog got the scent of a cottontail he went out of his mind.  He was the runningest dog anyone in that part of the country had ever seen.  My cousins hunted him hard, but he left them and went to live with some folks a few miles away who just about rabbit hunted for a living.  He was one fine rabbit hound.

I ha d a 2yr old beagle bitch given to me. She had been a backyard pet up to that time. With 2 pet rabbits I had her  hunting her own rabbits in 3 days.

I agree 1 year or less on most beagles. But some male dogs dont catch on as quick but when they do look out. keep them in th woods. I picked up a 2 year old female never been in the woods had her running short runs the first day after about a week of hunting every day bingo good dog. What it all comes to is if they have it in them they will run.
