Suggested load for Winchester Apex
« on: October 12, 2006, 10:45:21 AM »
After much deliberation I just ordered a .50 cal Winchester Apex from Bass Pro Shops. Should be in next Tuesday. Can anyone recommend a good load for this gun? I have some loose 777 and some 295 gr. Powerbelts left over from my last muzzleloading experience. What would be a good combination with these?

100 grains of any APP/Shockey's Gold/Goex Pinnacle 3Fg and compress the load firmly!

I have been using 100 grs loose ffg Shockey's gold, with harvester crush rib sabots, and 265 grn, .44 cal hornady interlock bullets in my apex, so far they have been around inch groups at 50 yards which is good enough for me since i hunt in the thick brush up here in michigan, so shots are usually close. nore accurate than my slug gun so i am happy

I haven't tried the PowerBelts in it but my son's Apex seems to like the 250 Shockwaves. The 200SW's are also suppose to be good in it but I haven't tried them yet. Give the PB's a try since you already have them. Start at 80gr and work up to see what it likes.

It's better to shoot for the sky and come a bit short than to shoot for the ground and hit every time. After all, the ground is just a place to start, the sky's the limit.

I shoot 100gr 777, and 295 powerbelt. First load i tried, and it was real accurate at 75yds. Since you have the makins, I'd try it before searching...
