Garand twist rate?
« on: October 18, 2006, 05:42:59 AM »
I have a 1957 Springfield in very good condition. Planning on shooting it more and more. I have some military ball ammo, and was looking for some soft points. (My son wants to use it this deer season.)

I've tried some 165 and 180 grain factory, but wasn't thrilled with the results. (Too erratic to even call a 'group' like 10 and 12 inch @ 100 yards.) Was going to try some factory 150's next.

The military ball stuff I have is much more accurate, printing around 2 inches.

What twist does a Garand have? Is it possible they have a slower than 1-10 twist that 165's and 180's didn't do well?
