Don't like the composite stock
« on: October 14, 2006, 06:08:54 PM »
I bought a TC Black Diamond and don't care for the composite stock. Does anyone know if there is a company that makes a wood stock that will fit? Or does anyone have any suggestions? Is it possible to make the composite fit better? I was suprised when I took it apart and saw how poorly it fit and how cheap it appears to be.

Call T/C and tell them you are not satisfied with that stock and see if they will put a wood stock on it. My brother had one of those BD's with that stock, I thought it was poorly made and the fit of the barrel and action was horrible at best. T/C is a good company that likes satisfied customers, won't hurt to ask if they will put a wood one on it for a few bucks. If you are not picky, they might even have a blem for cheap?

Gun Dog,
I feel the same way. When I tighten the rear screw the barrel feels loose. When I loosen it several turns the barrel seems to bed better in the stock.  I understand floating barrels but this is more movement than any floating barrel that I have ever seen. I still haven't shot it yet to determine if it will shoot accurately.

waelkhntr, that is exactly the same thing as mine. I am little concerned that with only two screws holding the barrel in and one of them loose that I could get a surprise I was not counting on. I am also located in Wa. down in Vancouver. Where are you?

You likely will not get a reply from email to T/C. The last time I checked they tell you that they want you to either call or send ground mail.

Thompson made a limited amount of Black Diamonds with the wood stock. However, buying it from them won't be cheap.

If you want to add balance and quietness to yours, tape two long bolts together - stick it in the buttstock - then buy some poly-foam spray from a major hardware near you to fill the remaing open space.

I called them yesterday. They seemed surprised that I felt the composite stock was sub standard. They said they do make a wood stock but don't have in in "stock" at this time. Check back in a month. The price was $185.00! That seems way out of line.
