Does anybody know where i can find a authinic looking scope for the buffalo rifle.thats preety reasonable . thanks for your help

The least expensive option that I've seen is from Dixie, a much nicer one is the Malcolm, but it's over $500 with mounts. There's another option, but I can't remember the name of it, but it's not cheap, either.

Mounting info is on the Dixie page, a gunsmith would be required for most that aren't home DIY types.

ok thanks .the reason im asking is i heard the sights on the rifle is hard to get past 100 yards for elavation . is that true?

Montana Vintage arms makes some nice scopes....  But, they are NOT cheap....
When it comes to optics, you usually get what you pay for though....

If you want a long range sight, the Smith Ladder sight is probably the nicest that is a direct fit. It comes with a notch slider, but you can get a peep slider for it from TOTW or direct from Smith Ent. Pics are Bernie's rifle (dodd3). He shoots out to 800yds with it accurately.

Another option is the Williams FP-Target sight direct from H&R for $60, it's good for 500gr bullets to about 500yds, see the peep and firesight link in the FAQ.

Another option is to mount a vernier type sight to the wrist as in the pic of Bernie's. Or as Handirifle did.

That's about as good as it gets except for Sportsman's Warehouse sells em for $299 if you have one near ya, Gander sells em for the same or better than WM. If you order one from WM, be prepared for a wait.

I'd give Sportsman's a call and see what they have in stock before I spent $2.50 a gallon for gas to check, unless you just want to shop!!

It wasn't even good for 100yds on mine with the rear sight all the way at the top of the ramp, I swapped out the .584" tall factory 17A front sight for a .404" tall 17A sight, several others had the same problem, but for others it worked fine for 100yds+, don't remember specifically how far tho.

I never had any trouble with elevation adjustments at(past)100 yards.  I actually had a lot of elevation left on my BC.  This was shooting handloads and 300 gr. and 405 gr. bullets at 100 yards.  Don't know about the heavier stuff.

I just recently installed a scope on my BC.  It turned out real good and wasn't hard at all.  I didn't even use a mount that was designed for the BC.  I am a sometimes  home DIY type.  Sometimes it turns out good and sometimes it doesn't.   :)

Jack, that question pertained to the mounting of the traditional scope which was the topic of this thread, they use external adjustments which would require extensive machining on a BC.

1000 yard stare,

Nothing special is needed to mount a modern scope on a BC, they're just like a Handi, in fact with good rings and the right scope, they look and shoot great, a good alternative for old eyes if long range shooting is your goal. I have a Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40 Mildot on one of mine. Stuffit has a real nice scoped BC, bottom pic.

My BC with standard sights is zeroed in at 200 yards.  Shooting remington 300hps at 2000fps

And, I have more room to lift the rear peep sight a little more.  Maybe I could get 250 out of it.

I'm wondering if H&R put different 17A sights on some BCs since so many work fine with the factory front sight, that seems to be the only answer that makes sense to me, the only other possibility would be a bore that wasn't centered in the barrel, but mine is perfect. Maybe they ran out of the lower .404" or .494" sights and put the .584" sight on some of em? ??? I can't remember for sure, but mine shot 6" or 8" low with the rear sight at the top of the ramp with the 405gr rems at 1500fps or so, with the .404" front and the rear FP-Target in the lowest position, it hits 1½" high at 100yds with the same load.

my 357 needed a different front post once I got it from the factory as an add on barrel.  I could not get it on paper at 25 yards.  HR sent me a taller one real fast and without question.

now that I think of it, my friends BC needed a different front site.  He bought his from Lyman though, did not try to work with HR.  His problem was that he could not get it any better than 8 inches high at 100 yards..  If he wanted a long range shooter, it would have been fine, but he wanted it zeroed at 100.

I calles sportsmans whare house today they did not have it said they could order it the bc rifle.335. plus 15 dollars shipping plus tax .I think ill go with wm for 315.00
