Encore scope ring height
« on: October 06, 2006, 04:51:36 PM »
I have just purchased a TC encore 209X50 SS with Laminate Thumbhole stock and have a question about mounting the scope.  The Encore has the iron sights that I do not want to remove.  I have ordered a Leupold Vari-x II 3X9X40 scope and the Leupold quick release base and rings.  What ring height will I need to clear the iron sights, Medium or high?

I am getting away with medium rings without taking off my rear sights. I have an Nikon Omega 3X9X40 Scope on it.

I have my scope mounted on see through rings.  The iron sights are on at 50 yds and the scope is on at 150 yds.

I use Burris Zee rings, medium height, on my Encore using a Nikon 3-9X40 and didn't have to remove the rear sight.

Well I ordered the medium Leupold quick release rings and they didn't quite clear the rear sight.  so I exchanged them for the high QR rings and it works perfectly.  the objective clears the rear sight by about 1/8 of an inch.  I have the laminate thumbhole stock on my Encore and the comb is high enough that I still get a good check weld.

Here's a pic of the Burris steel rings (Weaver-style) and the quick detach ones that appear to be mediums.
