Sighting plane, swing characteristics.
I like a longer sighting plane when shooting clays and the 28" length isn't too whippy for me. The 26" length just swings too fast for me.

Two inches.
Like Nabob said it's all a matter of balance and swing and that's really a VERY individual matter and only you can decide what's right for you. But for me I like 28" barrels on my O/Us and SxS doubles both. They just feel better and thus shoot better for me. I've owned and used from 26" to 32" barrels on O/Us and the 28" is best in my opinion for me. As stated the 26's just seem to whippy and out of control. BUT if you hunt really thick stuff like for grouse or woodcock, those short ones "might" be better.
