Marlin 336 30-30 brings home a buck
« on: November 21, 2006, 01:56:56 PM »
Well everyone, today God must have been smiling down on me. I put my trust in my son's Marlin 336 30-30 because my shoulders were very sore from work. So my son, worked on an antler that we had found the other day while hunting against a tree and several branches. Thru the trees I saw him, with his nose to the ground, heading toward a doe bleating away, saying "HERE I AM". My son and I put the sneak on and found him and her, and the 170-gr bullet found its mark.

My son took the picture from my cell phone, wishi it was more clear.

Congratulations, Montanan!    I love the old .30/30 and it still kills just as well as it ever did, even better with the Hornady LeverEvolution bullets.  Hoo Boy, it's stacked up a pile of venison over the last hundred years or so.  I'm shooting this Ruger .30/06 and where I live here in Ky., sometimes we need a little yardage but I am really giving thought to going back to the old standby.  I've even thought about going to an 1894 in .44 Magnum with a red dot setup for the woods.  Again, congratulations.
