molly in barrel
« on: December 01, 2006, 07:48:59 PM »
I just bought a used .260 and noticed while cleaning that no matter how many patches and solvent covered patches I run through it that it comes out with dark grayish blotches on the patch.  I believe it is molly coat.  If I go shoot uncoated bullets (nosler custom ammo) out of it will it affect accuracy?  It is a heavy er shaw barrel.  I was just wondering if there may be any problems.

Use an amonia based bore cleaner and the "moly" should come right out.

It's not that hard to remove.

Clean until your satisfied or tired either one, then take out and shoot it.

Should not affect performance.

I am of the mindset that you really only need to clean when accuracy suffers.
