When you are refering to stippling, I suspect that you are talking about checkering? If so, refinishing any wooden article will be possible with the right supplies. For checkering, a TOOTH BRUSH and a liberal amount of wood stripper will pull every bit of finish out between the lines and leave the checkering crisp. Any other brush might wear down the peaks and ruin your checkering. The grain will be raised after stripping and a fine steel wool(000) will smooth this back out, taking care not to go into the checkering. Any inletted medalions will have to be either removed or covered to protect them. Good Luck.
