New 243 Handi is home from the GunShow
« on: October 28, 2006, 04:43:04 PM »
Whew...what a trip today.  Primary reason, 4 new tires for the wife & deliver a package to a friends daughter who is at college.

But....hehe....there was also a LARGE gunshow this weekend. (note - large for the middle of Nebraska - 250 tables).

Bought lots of reloading components.  8 pound jug of H4895 for $65 (somebody in the person's family died, so they were selling the reloading stuff).  243/6mm bullets - $5-$10/100.  I bought all of the 223 and 243 bullets they had...over 2000.

Bought an extra tumbler, powder measurer, & case trimmer.

But, best of all, a brand new Handi in 243 came home with me.  :)

Will be working up loads in 60, 68, 70, & 87 grains.

LOL!

The worst part!?!?!!!!  I stopped by the local gunshop in this town BEFORE going to the gunshow to purchase an eight pounder of H4895.  So, $114.95 + tax....and then I went to the gunshow.  Locally, I pay $16.99 to $21 (when desperate) per pound.  Cannot even think of ordering because of the $25 hazmat + shipping for powder.  So, I have 16 pounds of H4895 to use up.  Believe it or not, I used 8 pounds this summer...in 17 Rem and 204.

I MISSED the eight pounder on the first and second pass...believe it or not.  After I wiped the surprised look on my face and threw money at the guy......I could not believe the powder was still there.

Nice score for sure!

I wish some gun shows would come to central PA more often.

I just missed a .243 Handi at the gun show yesterday.  It was new with a nice scope and mounts + 2 boxes of ammo for $165.00.

I also saw a .500 S&W Handi with high viz sights.  He wanted $300.00, and I already have a .45-70.  I think it would have made a great over the door gun for someone who lived where there are large carnivores.
