Savage 16FLSS or 116FLSS???????????
« on: February 08, 2007, 03:52:49 AM »
Any reviews of this model would be greatly appreciated.  Looking for a left handed, bolt action, syn, SS barrel in one of the following cals, 7-08, 308 or 270.  This model Savage seems to fit my needs.  Pros and Cons needed.  Thanks.
Happy Hunting

My choice was the 308. I think you would be happy with any of your possibilities. I also have a savage in 300WSM which I'd avoid in a rifle where you want a quick follow up shot. I dont think the super fat cartidges feed very well. The 308 will give you the widest range of bullets available. The 270 will shoot the flattest but doesn't have the heavier bullets.

I've got a lefty 16 stainless/synthetic in .223 Rem.  Not as accurate as their heavier model 12, but mine will put 5 shots inside 1.25" from the bench at 100 yds.  Some loads come in at under an inch.  At 200 yds my best handloads came in around 2.25-2.5".  I love the accu-trigger.  It handles well and seems nicely balanced.  You get what you pay for.  The plastic stocks are cheap and undoubtedly have some flex.  But it's about as weatherproof a rifle as you can get for the price.  When I bought it, my plan was to put a laminated, thumbhole stock on it.  I'd still like to do that, but that hasn't stopped me from putting several hundred rounds through it in the meantime.

In summary: I like it.  Not my most accurate rifle, but still much more accurate than I am with it.
