I have a Smith Model 57 with a 4" tube. I found it in my local gun store. It was a consignment gun. The owner had been a Bait, Tackle and Gun dealer here in Vegas for many years and when his neiborhood went down the tubes he sold the building and the land. He had quite a few handguns that were in his stock that he had not sold.
This one was made back in the day when they had pinned barrels and countersunk chambers in the cylinders. I paid a ton of money for it but it had never been fired and it came in the original box with a cleaning rod, brush, mop and instructions and such.
I took off the clunky Magna grips it came with and replaced them a set of Jerry Mickluk's competition one piece grips. Great grips. A PITA to install but once they are on they work great....fits my hand great and the recoil is not too bad.
I ordered 500 cases from Starline and a with a decent mold I am casting 220 gr alloy boolits over about 7 grains of Unique powder. From this gun with a 4" tube I am getting 950 FPS, manageable recoil and very good accuracy. I know I can load it hotter but I really have no need for a faster round unless I were to take it Hog Hunting. In such a case I would load it up with 2400 powder and find a good safe hunting loading for it using these boolit molds but I would change the alloy.
