p-14
« on: November 15, 2006, 01:18:56 PM »
I just picked up a sporterized p-14 by B.S.A. and my problem is when they machined off the rear sight platform they did a nice job of beveling it but it is a lot lower then the receiver now. It's drilled and taped but I can't find bases to fit it. When B.S.A. did this they must have had some bases in mind. Am I going to have to have a block machined to bring the rear up to fit a weaver base. Any ideas. Thanks for any help.

zouave.

The original design had huge, big, blade ears to hold and protect the rear sight (a peep). Ground off, the rear ring is ALOT lower than the front. I suspect that if you go to the factorys, since this gun has not been in wide distribution lately, they will have a rear base to fit, made to the right height on the shelf. Just not made recently.  You just won't find it in local stores. Grinding off was a very standard treatment. One, don't recall, had a hole under the spring..."the bird bath..." Great gun. Beware the Eddystones. luck

Hi There,

Hey zouave any chance of a photo of this BSA sporterised P-14?

The scope mounts that BSA intended be used are the old Parker-Hale ones. Depending on the scope you wish to fit it may be possible to find some. Bases are fairly easy it's the rings which seem scarce just now. This is my Model E BSA :-

These rifles were converted between 1949-1953.
