can anyone tell me what this cartridge is and can a handi be rechambered for this?

The Gibbs cartridges are basically "improved" [Ackley] improved cartridges.  If you're familiar with how cartridges are "Ackley improved" mostly with with 40-degree shouklders, imagine those cartridges with the shoulders moved forward leaving a shorter neck than would be on the '06, .25/06, .270 etc.  Based on the .30/06-.270 cases, once they're Gibb's improved you have cartridges with the absolute maximum capacity they are capable of.

A company out of Laramie or Casper WY makes custom ammo, and I believe firearms.  Their ammo often have the name 'Hawk' after them.  Check out the .338 Hawk, .375 Hawk, .416 Hawk, etc.

Don't even think about it. Unless you had some other way of fire forming the cases.
The Gibs requires a max load with a bullet jamed tight into the lands and a lubed case to get good formed cases.

This generates a heck of a lot of pressure. Lesser loads would only give you case head seperation. I had a 30 Gibbs one time and it was a pain. For the little extra you get above a 25-06AI it's not worth it, specially in a Handi.

For that matter a 25-06 is about all you can reasonable expect to work well in a Handi, with some slightly reduced loads. Not to forget that Handi's are not bolt guns.

No a 25 Gibbs is not any more  dangerous than any other wildcat. If you can find some new formed brass you could use the 25 Gibbs in a Handi.

Or if you wanted a 25Gibbs on a single shot action bad enough, a Ruer#1 would be an acceptable platform. But then why frigg around just chamber the #1 for the 257 Wby. or the 25 STW.

I have been battling with my rebored a rechambered 257 Roberts, it keeps on loosening up and I am not shooting max loads. Imagin a 25 Gibbs.  I was going to take it hunting in a couple of days, but not the way it shoots now. Gone from less than a 1/2" to 2-1/2". The Ruger#1 gets the nod to go hunting it does not need any baby sitting.

Eh man, the name of my 257 Roberts is chinese. "SUM TING WONG"
