try this use only cloth as in cotton or linnen don't use a bed sheet expecily the wifes new one (believe me i found out the lard way and i cost me a brand new set of silk sheet s. that definately hurt my pocket book, i got busted in the act by the wifey.
any way cut into squares about an inch long and wide drop powder down and place patch on muzzle and place ball on patch and run it down just enough to get the ball started in muzzle and take knife and cut off excess, then continue to run ball and patch home. woks good.
i've used .308 diam. round balls and .310"s, and .315's all work well but the .315" and a .15 linnen patch seams to be the best in my green mountain 36" lancaster builtby myself.
