8 pt. with 45-70 barrel
« on: October 30, 2006, 01:54:51 AM »
I got a nice 8 pt Saturday morning with the new 45-70 barrel I got the week before. The 300 grain HP
hit the deer quartering away at about 70 yards, broke the last 3 ribs on the left side entering, played pinball inside (turned everything inside to soup) and broke 2 ribs on the right and lodged under the skin just behind the shoulder. Recovered bullit weight 260 grains. Upon mpact the deer dropped to his front knees and then got up walked 20 paces and fell over. Got to love those TC big bores. I've got to add that I probably would not have raised the rifle had I not seen the deer in my binnoculars, I thought I saw movement and looked close but could see nothing, put the glasses up and it looked like the cover of a hunting magazine, Lots of leaves still on the trees, wonder how many I could have gotten if I had good glass to check out movement. Don't like using the scope until I'm sure of my target.

Congrats Uncle Joe!. I got my 45-70 barrel back in August to use on wild hogs and love it. Hitting something with that big bullet is fun, ain't it?

Congrats on the deer.

Congrads on the Buck.   I hit a big doe last year with a 300 grain Remington Hollow point.  Took it right behind the front shoulder the bullet took out the heart and left a 3" exit hole  on the other side.  She never moved after she was shot.  This year switched to  the PMC silver 350 grain solid.  These are much hotter to shoot.

Great job Uncle Joe.  Opening day for muzzle season is this saturday here in Virginia and I will be stuck in a treestand waiting for my monster to come along.  We have two weeks of muzzle season for deer.  I love it during this time, no dogs.  I am not a promoter of dogs for deer hunting.  but that is another story.

To all, good hunting!!!       ;)
