Confused about bullets
« on: November 05, 2006, 02:42:18 PM »
There seems to be a multitude of different bullets to choose from. I have a TC Black Diamond XR. It has a 1in 28 twist. Everything seems to indicate sabots are the bullet of choice for this rifle but I am wondering how some of the other bullets shoot. Are conicals accurate with a fast twist? Some of the posts I have read seem to indicate you need to lower the powder load with heavier bullets. Is that a correct assesment?

Yes that's a correct assesment in most-all fast twists.

You bought a sabot gun there. Why not try them first? Being that your gun and twist are sabot bullet-friendly, pick out a grain size you want from those offered in packages from T/C, Traditions, Buffalo and CVA for best fit in your new T/C. The bullet offerings from Barnes, Knight and Hornady seem to be a tighter fit in most cases. Buying those may require purchasing an aftermarket, easy-loading plastic sabot from makers like Harvester. A friendly first choice in powders would be either Pyrodex, 777 and Goex real blackpowder.
