calf hunting

does anybody have any tips for calf hunting?  dont often get adult tags so i am ussually forced to hunt calves, but they can be hard to come by.

Travel through good moose country, try to find a cow with calf, try to get within range, shoot said calf, Then the fun begins......

Hopefully, you can drive off the mother and not get snorked in the process!!!!!   Mama moose can be real nasty customers!!!
Then gut+ skin as you would any other animal.

I love moose hunting but it is pretty simple.... find good habitat and hang out in it long enough to find what you're looking for.

Three years ago the state gave out calf permits.  That year saw two differant parties shoot calves.  Problem was Mama would not be driven off.  The cow stayed close and would not let the shooters get the caves till after the meat had spoiled due to the hot temps in early September.  Now they give out Antlerless permits, that way two hunters can shoot the calf and the cow.

just the word calf makes my mouth water... moose is already my favorite... but tender moose?  oh boy.  Yeah, mama moose is not a likely party to get rid of easily.  I would be most likely to take that shot real close to an easily climbable tree, or from far away, if she dont see you, she wont leave that calf.  It seems to me like the best way would be some type of deversion, making it possible to tide a long rope to the calf quickly, then hang it up a tree, and be up in that tree when momma notices...  Either way, I dont want any full sized cow on stilts running at me at any time of the day or night.

Corbanzo:  You want tender meat, shoot a cow.  My last cow was a seven year old, and she was tender.  Of course she was not stressed in any way.  She was lying down sleeping, she raised her head to look around and I put the bullet right between her eyes, she never kicked.   The best meat we ever took home.

then u would do alot of laughing in ontario cause you get a calf tag when u buy a moose license then u have to apply for an adult moose tag, which in most areas chances of getting one are very slim, so calf is the most hunted moose up here.

yeah, in my GMU its kind of a mute point.  We dont have calf or cow permits.  everything is 50" plus or a spike fork.
