Backwoodsman's Special?
« on: August 26, 2006, 03:10:14 PM »
Hi, my name is Mark. I picked up a well loved NEF Pardner SB-1 today
in a pawn shop for $65.00. It had a nice patina, a flat black stock,
and a broken triggerguard. Anyone have a plastic triggerguard they
would donate to return this veteran to service? If not I'll repair
this one. What do I need to remove the buttstock.

Thanks in advance!

Mark

The trigger guard can be ordered from NEF or Brownell's, they're only a few bucks, but you'll need to disassemble the trigger group to do it. See the trigger work links in the Centerfire FAQ and Help sticky for R&R info.

The butt stock is bolted to the frame with a 3/8" bolt, you'll need to remove the butt plate and use a long 3/8" drive extension with a 9/16" socket on it to get at the bolt.

Sure, for $41 plus shipping from H&R, see the Retail Parts Price list in the FAQ and Helps sticky.

Looks great Swampman. How's it shoot?
PROUD REDNECK CONSERVATIVE

I'd much rather be remembered for being a great shot than having the most expensive gun

I just put it back together today.  I expect it will shoot like most NEF 12 Gauge guns.  Brutal on both ends ;D

Hey Swampman those stocks look great.  Did you refinish the original ones or what?  I don't understand the term "pallet wood" yet.

Yes, those are the original factory stock set.  It was painted flat black when it left the factory I believe.  Pretty tough to get off.  Pallet Wood is used to refer to the plain factory stock sets.  I used the term before I rever saw it here.  I don't know who coined the phrase.

Thanks for the info on pallet wood.  Now I don't have to sound so dumb.  I would like to know what you used to stain the stocks with since they seem to be a deep rich reddish color..  A scratch on mine shows through to non stained white wood.  I think the finish is just painted on.

The stain is Feibing's Med. Brown Leather Dye, and the finish is 7 coats Formby's Satin Tung Oil Finish cut 50% with turpentine.

It can still scratch but it's very easy to touch up.
