We have a relative staying with us for a few days. Yesterday, he wanted to fire his AMT .22 magnum pistol, which he carries for self-protection. I dug out three weights of bullet, the Federal 50 grain, Remington 40 grain, and Remington 30 grain. It was getting dusky, so I set up some clay pigeons and we fired on them from the south porch. The 30 grainers made the best fireball, but our fun ended when the slide stop popped out and it took us about 20 minutes to find it and get back to shooting. Even with the heaviest bullets, we got failure to eject stoppages. The 50 grainers were best, but the last shot still tied up the gun. When we examined it later, we also noted that the spring guide rod looked bent. I told him that it looked to me like the gun needed to go to a gunsmith for a major rework. If it were mine, I would get rid of it. Is this pistol worth the time and effort to get it up to par?
