Has anybody here done any work with the new Knight Long Range Hunter? I've been to Toby's site and was impressed enough to buy one last week as I have a few stands that this rifle should work well on... long shots and no carrying. One thing I noticed on the one I bought is the barrel is marked ER Shaw not Green Mountain. The copy on this rifle boasts a Green Mountain barrel and while ER Shaw has been around for quite a while I'm not sure how their muzzle loading barrels stack up against Green Mountain. I have only shot the rifle 8 shots to date and 3 of those were sighters. The one 5 shot group w/ Hornady SST 300 gr and 120V Black Mag was less than stellar, 4" at 100 yds. I will try the new Barns Spitfire TMZ 250 grainers this weekend.
On another subject, my first time using Black Mag powder I noticed that it was practically impossible for me to swab the barrel between shots with a spit patch. Maybe because it was a new barrel...which I cleaned before starting. The patch would go in fairly easy but would not come back out even when only inserted a few inches with a short back and forth motion. I'm not talking about hanging up on the crud ring but on the first half of the barrel.
Thanks in advance
Steve
