Selection of front and rear sights

I have a Chaparral Arms 1876 Winchester .40-60 with 28" octogon barrel (Black Powder) and am interested in using it to shoot CAS side matches to 200 and 300 yards and also use in shooting BPCR silhouettes.

As such, I'm trying to learn the proper process for sizing and selection of the sights.  Am wanting to use a shrouded front sight (with inserts) with spirit level; and tang mounted rear sight adjustable 50 to 600 yards or so....

What say ya'll?

SASS Shooters Handbook for rifles for side matches:
• Front barrel sights may vary from simple blades to period hooded wind gauge designs using interchangeable sight inserts and
having a spirit level mounted integral with the sight or sight base.
• Rear sights must either be open iron sights mounted on the barrel or original style tang or stock wrist mounted peep
sights. Long range rear barrel mounted sights of the flip-up ladder type may use a peephole drilled through the sliding
sight leaf. An example of this is the various ladder type sights used on the Springfield trapdoors.
