Shockwave Sabot Question
« on: November 14, 2006, 08:34:36 AM »
I recently purchased a 50 caliber T/C Omega Z5 muzzleloader. It came with the starter kit. In this kit there were 10 Shockwave sabots but no where on the packaging or in any of the included literature does it list the grain weight of these sabots. I am certain that they are either 200 or 250 as I have seen a 300 grain Hornady SST sabot (Basically the same bullet) and these are not that big. I do not have a grain weight scale. The rifle groups them great with two 50 grain 777 pellets so I would like to order more of them but not knowing the proper grain weight has got me held up. Can anybody help a blackpowder newbie like me out here? Also if it turns out that they are only 200 grain would that be too light for use on Alabama whitetails? Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

P.S I think this muzzleloading stuff just might be highly addictive! I had a blast sighting this gun in.

The 200s are .40cal and, last I checked, blue sabot.  250s are .45 and black sabots.  The newer "superglide" sabots might look different, I haven't bought them yet.

The .40 caliber is not a widely used slug, but the 250 SST in .45 is very widely used.
I bet you a dollar it is the 250 that came with your gun.
Aim small don't miss.

Thanks guys. Mine has the black sabot so they must be 250 grain.

My Omega came with a package of (5) 250 grain Shockwaves.  Just enough to zero in before going back to the store to buy more.  Brilliant marketing.
