Well, I got the taller front sight installed on my Omega X7 to make it possible to zero the gun for woods and standing corn work (ie "near"). After learning the hard way (20min of pounding on the ramrod with a wooden block and hammer) that 250gr Shockwaves were too big for the barrel, I switched to 300gr Keith Nose bullets. Five shots to get a couple inches high at 50 yds, a group at 100 yd to confirm, and it was done. VERY nice shooting rifle, I can't wait to level a deer with those peep sights.
The thumbhole wearing the Leatherwood range-compensating scope was next. Since it was previously zeroed, I decided to check it under "field conditions". I set up the target, then walked until I estimated the range to be 200yd just by looking. Three shots from field conditions (bipod only), then went to look at the target. There were 3 holes in a group just under 2 inches, pushed 1 inch left by a slight crosswind I did not hold over for, and an inch high (lasered the range as 190 afterwards).
Can't wait for the season next week. I think the shotgun barrel will stay cold this year.
