muskrats and huts?
« on: November 11, 2006, 03:01:04 AM »
well i obtained permission to trap a fair sized swamp was there yesterday checking things out and set a few traps 4 in total. anyow there are 5 huts that i can visibly see from shore they are appox 3' above whater line and approx 4' around. as a general rule how many rats can or should be taken from this pond without destroying the population to bad.
i set one hut up yesterday and 2 feed beds took 2 rats this morning at the hut nothing at the feed beds, if they are feed beds.

The average number of rats per hut is 5.You can take 75 to 80% of the rats, without affecting next years numbers.
Examine the entire marsh, you must also take into consideration, those rats living in bank dens.
