Anyone have any recomendations for a Leupold scope for a 30-06 Ultra?

What kind of rings  would you recommend?

I have a VX-1 mounted in medium Burris Signature Zees on my .30-06 Ultracomp, also have one in the same rings on my .338-06A-Square Ultra, great scope for the money! Midway has the rings on sale thru the end of the month for $24.95.

I'm not a big fan of the VX-1, but do like the Leupold fixed power scopes.  If I had to pick one, I would go with a fixed 4x or 6x.

Leupold PRW rings are my FAVORITE!!!

I am quite partial to the VXII 2x7x32 scope in a matt finish. I have NOTHING but LEUPOLDS on my rifles. I have MOSTLY 2X7X32's but I do have a couple 1X4X20's. IMHO, the 2X7X32 is about perfect for most handis. If its a short range gun I like the "shotgun" models if not, like your 30-06. I just get a std scope.

With this scope the MED height is perfect! But you will need the hammer offsett.

My 30-06 has always carried a Leupold 3x9. It has worked on everything from "close in" whitetails to "way out there" antelope. But we shoot a lot of open space here in Montana. If not for the long ranges, I've come to like the Leupold 2x7 I have on my 257 Roberts. That lower range is realy nice when playing with the whitetails in the brush, and I like it's small profile. What ever you do, I suggest getting the scope to match your hunting/shooting conditions, and invest in the best quality you can. It will pay for itself in the long run.

Leupold's have been my one and only preferred brand of scopes for many years.

If I was putting a scope on my main hunting rifle, I'd choose a VX-2 or VX-3, probably a 3X9X in the VX-2 or similar in the VX-3 (3.5X10X).

But if economics was the goal and getting two or three or four Leupies to put on Handi-barrels,  I'd also pick a VX-1 3X9X, matte, heavy and/or wide duplex, or the VX-2 (if not the VX-1) in 4X12X for an HB varminter.

However, for my main bolt-hunting rifle, I'm looking seriously at the Leupy Euro-30mm scopes, likely the 3X9X, in a flat matte finish with a German #1 or #4 reticle.

If my Handi-rifle was my main goto rifle and a boltgun wasn't part of the collection, I'd still go with the Euro-30 or VX-2 on my favorite game-getter Handi.

I won't compromise with Leupies.  They're a must have piece of equipment.
