Little Dandy powder measure help needed

I am loading the 297/230 Morris Long.  I know the #4 Little Dandy powder rotor throws 3 grs. of Unique.  How many grs. of 2400 will it throw.  I need a rotor to throw 4 grs. of 2400.

Anybody have any idea which it might be? Should be around #4, #5, or #6.  If anybody has these and could check, I would be greatful.

The Chart doesn't go that low with 2400 and the RCBS doesn't know. neither does Huntington's

Extrapoliting from the chart, I get #1 at 3.565; the #2 at 3.875;  The#3 should be 4.34 grains of 2400.  If my numbers are about correct, it should be easy enough to trickle up .125 gr.  In those small chambers on the rotors, bigger granules are a little iffy.

Thanks Ross, That is about what  my interpolation gave also. I was hoping there sombody out there using the rotors out there who might run some 2400 through and verify.

I just loade 3 grs. Unique in these cases to make fire forming load and it is a compressed load.

By the way Ross, it nice to see that you only hang out on  the upper class boards...see you back over on MH EZ board

I don't think I have any rotors that small, but I will check and if I do I will run some 2400 through them.

However I think if you e-mail RCBS tech support they would give you some idea.

I just broke out the Little Dandy and threw some charges of 2400 with the #2 and #3 rotors.

The #2 throws a 4.0 grain charge and the #3 throws a 4.3 grain charge.

Hope this is what you are looking for.  I don't have a #1 and my son is using my #4.

Thanks Thomas appreciate that.  I stopped at a sporting goods store and picked up a little Dandy and a #4 to throw 3 grs. of Unique.  Got it ahome and opened the box, no lock ring, no set screw and no drop tubes, and it's only 45 miles back to the gunshop. gotta go that way next Saturday. It will give me  a chance to pick up a #2.

26 years ago I live in the 7200 blk of W. Montebello in Glendale.  Use to walk down to the end of the street and hunt Dove...bet you can't do that now.

I have lived in the same area for about almost as long and I used to walk across the street (Thunderbird Road) at 47th Avenue and hunt doves in the morning and evening.

Now the ASU West Campus in located on that mile by half mile tract and is all built up.  I have been sucked up by the city, now having to go about 40 miles north to hunt.

Now a word or caution on throwing those light charges of Unique.  I have had some very, very irregular charges thrown from a Little Dandy using light weights of Unique.  Something about that flake powder and that rotor.  I have long since disposed of the spread sheet where I recorded a sampling and it was very all over the place.  However I am throwing consistant 3.0 grain charges of Red Dot with my Uniflows.  But the 2400 throws really concistant with the Little Dandy.

Thanks for the warning about light loads in the little dandy. they should be two hard to spot.  3 grs.of Unique fill the case right to the top of the case.  These little 297/230 Morris cases don't hold a lot.

As with any powder measure, you must use a consistent charge to charge routine to get consistent results.
I have used a Little Dandy for pistol charges for many years, with good results with a wide variety of charge weights and powders.  
I keep topping off the reservoir to keep the powder level within the upper one inch of the tube.
I turn the rotor, tap three times on the side of the rotor to settle the powder in the rotor, then turn it, tap once to make sure all powder comes out, then repeat the sequence with the next case.
I am anal about consistent charges and weigh-check frequently and have always been satisfied with the results. You develop a ritual or routine kind of like a baseball player's approach to approaching the plate and swinging on the ball.

Just for filling in the details, I threw 10 charges of 2400 in a #1 rotor and got 35.7 grains, not far from the projected guess.  This powder sure measures evenly, almost as well as Western Ball C.
Are you using Buffalo formed cases?  Are they swaged down Hornet cases?  The reduced capacity would pose little problem, I would guess.
Wonder how Lil'Gun would work.

Yes got the Brass from Buffalo.  It's reformed Hornet brass.  I have all 100 rounds loaded up with 3 grs. of Unique and 45 gr. Hornady loaded backwards.  As soon as I get the brass fireformed I will send 5 cases to Dave Davison at CH4D for Dies. $60 from CH4D at twice the quality and more than half the price of  RCBS at $135.

Now if the gun would just show up.  Ken at Jemtreks said 10 days...I can't wait that long...
