White Oak Plantation Handgun Hunt

Note...I apologize if this is in the wrong place and hope I do not break any rules with the posting, but I thought handgun hunters would definitely appreciate this the most.

If anyone is interested, I have a spot on the White Oak Plantation Handgun Only Hunt Dec 8-11 in Alabama.  I booked it at a discounted price due to having attended last year's hunt, but have experienced a combined financial/health issue that makes it difficult [not impossible, but difficult] for me to attend. 

If anyone is interested in taking this hunt I can offer mine at the reduced price I booked it at less another $100 I would cover due to the late notice.  In other words, if you buy the hunt from White Oak I will pay $100 of it and they will honor my price for you.  I got the hunt at last year's price since I was a repeat customer for this same hunt.

Guys and Gals,

This hunt is a lot of fun.  Three nice bucks were taken last year along with numerous does.  You are allowed a buck [16" spread or 8 points minimum] for your stay plus two does per day[!].  It is a great way to your new handguns and loads.  Attending are reps from Winchester, Burris, Freedom Arms [Bob Baker], T/C [Ernie French], Magnaport [Ken Kelly], and several other manufacturers.  They gave away three custom handguns [including a F/A Mod 83 .50 Wyoming, Ruger Super Redhawk 480 Advantage Magnaport Custom, and a T/C SS G2 in 375 JDJ...all 3 one of a kind for the hunt and engraved as such], 3 Magnaport Custom Coupons worth some serious $$, 3 high quality game camaeras, a pair of binoculars, a laser rangefinder, lots of ammo, hats, , Handgun Hunter Mags, flashlights,and more to the 12-13 paid hunters last year by random drawing.  Those are pretty good odds you will win a major prize.  Everyone got a box of goodies no matter what.

The food/lodging/service are first rate and the hunt consists of morning woods sits and evening greenfield sits with your handguns.  I had numerous opportunities to shoot does last year [took two] and shots ranged from 25 yards for a beautiful 8 point to in excess of 100 yards for one of the does taken.

I would not do this if I wasn't a little desperate as the hunt is a lot of fun, and the drawing at the end seemed like Christmas and I really wanted to experience all of it again.  I won one of the Magnaport coupons for a full, no holes barred, custom pistol job and am just getting ready to send a Redhawk to Mr. Kelly now to work his magic.

Before you ask, I tried to simply roll my deposit over for next year so I could definitely come back and have a spot booked, but they said it was too late and that I would have to pay the full cost of the hunt for this year no matter whether I could attend.  If I cannot find someone interested by the end of Novemeber I will go ahead and pay the balance for my hunt and go, but I wanted to take a shot at this to help me in my current situation if possible.  Note I am not upset with them for this policy as it being this late I gave them no time to book additional hunters.  They are a business and I respect that completely.

It is "kinda inappropriate" but I'm gonna allow it anyway. You really do need to post the price it's gonna cost tho. I have a standing policy on prices for anything being sold. I am somewhat interested in this personally but need to see the price before I'd consider proceeding. I've toyed with the idea of going in the past but just never got around to it.

The hunt is not exactly cheap.  It is something like $1600, but stupid me forgot to bring my invoice to work where I am posting this from. 

For you, and others who might be interested, I will post some more info.

You have great odds of getting a good portion of that value back in the handouts, but the hunt itself, the people I have met, and the facilities were top notch.  I couldn't have asked for nicer people to be around.  I will post the exact price tomorrow, or tonight if I can get back in here.

The price includes lodging Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.  The hunts are Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday morning and evening, and Monday morning and is considered a three day hunt if that makes sense.  Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in their very nice dining room buffet style with an excellent staff and a good selection of hot foods.  They joke that nobody loses weight on their hunts and they are not kidding.

They drive you to your stands before first light and around 1 PM and pick you up around 11AM and just after dark respectively.  If you have any issue with walking they will drop you at stands no more than a few yards from the dirt roads, or you could end up walking 100-200 yards on perfectly flat ground on marked trails if you tell them you are capable.  I sat both types of stands last year and saw deer within 45 minutes or so of being dropped off every evening.  The morning hunts revealed smaller numbers of deer in the dense woods, but I saw at least one deer from every stand last year.  It was odd that a few guys saw very few deer at all, but I swear I think they must have been doing something like bumping the walls of the aluminum enclosed blinds.  They echo a lot when clanged and it seemed too coincidental that a few of the same guys came back saying..."No deer!"...several evenings.

If anyone is reading this that was there and saw little last year...sorry!  I don't mean any offense!!

They do not look for you to have to do anything along the lines of dragging deer, butchering, etc.  They only ask that you pay attention.  Don't forget to take a safety belt or they make you buy one from them or to meet your guides truck at the pre-arranged times...don'task me how I know...too painful.  Actually, they were understanding about it...but I felt like a bonehead for misunderstanding.  I guess my mind was on vacation!

I will be going back in future years as think this was one of the most fun, lowest pressure, hunts I have attended.  A lot of the guys become good friends and sort of rendezvous back at this hunt every year.  It was real intersting meeting all those industry guys and picking their brains.  I forget one of the other guys names, but he publishes that new Handgun Hunter magazine and he was there.

Yup I remember Barry. Contact me via phone tonight. I sent you an e-mail and also left a message on your answering machine. I do have an interst depending on how much discount this ends up being. I noticed on the website they still have three openings for it which is extremely unusual.

Having hunted at White Oak, I'd have to say that the family there runs a real nice operation.  Great place to hunt, fish, shoot clays, and just sit on the porch and watch the pond.  The food was excellent and there was more than I could eat at every meal.  Reccomend this hunt to everyone without reservations.  When I was stationed in Montgomery, I bought a membership and went out once a month or so to shoot clays.  Enjoyed it thoroughly.
