New .410
« on: November 05, 2006, 03:29:27 PM »
On friday I was out driving around town, so I stop at a gun store and they had a H&R 098 for $125 so I'm the proud owner of a new .410  ;D and I love it! Went hunting with it saturday got 3 bunnys ;) after four misses. But I'm totally in love with this gun. This .410 is a lot more fun then my old one.So how many .410 hunters do we have in the ranks.

I've not picked up a NEF/H&R .410 yet.  On occasion I use a Mossberg bolt action .410 on squirrel.  With .410 shells at $8-10 per box, the $3 12's and 20's usually get the nod.

Congratulations and enjoy your new .410 :D

I like them and brought one along on my last trip to Maine Partridge hunting with my 16 gauge Pardner. My wife and my buddies wife each shot the .410 and had a great time. If I did not like my 16 so much my .410 would be the gun I would carry most for birds. I do have a feeling it is going to get a lot more use next Partridge season, it does shoot great!!!....<><.... :)

I like 'em, and carry a Pardner Youth typically. Mine still has the older curved forearm.

I really need to order the 28, 20, and 12ga. barrels for it. I doubt I'll ever need a 5 pound 12ga., but I'll be able to work my way up to it!

Question about the 410s,I'm thinking of getting one and was wondering how the do on squirrels? How far can you take small game with it,and is recoil allot lighter than the 20ga?Also have read on here and other places that the 2 3/4 shells do better than the 3s.Thanks for any experience and help.

I have a .410 Pardner and have taken many Squirrels with it, but be assured, it is a close range gun. I use 3 inch 6`s and shoot no more than 20-25 yards. It is much harder to hit with a .410 than a larger gauge for sure, but very fun. Jack.
